ABOUT US
ABADÁ-CAPOEIRA as a vehicle for social change and individual growth in order to transcend socio-economic barriers and empower our community. Our organization promotes respect, cooperation, and freedom.
Our teaching methodology is both challenging and supportive, rooted in the belief that encouragement and positive role modeling enable capoeira to enrich the lives of all students, regardless of level or background.
Professor Pastor
Ryan Johnson, has been training Capoeira for nearly 30 years. He has become an amazingly dedicated teacher of ABADÁ-Capoeira over these 20 years and counting. Known to his fellow Capoeiristas as Pastor, he continually seeks to improve his own training as well as his teaching to this day. Pastor received the rank of Instrutor, corda roxa, in 2015 in Brasil from Mestre Camisa and this naturally strengthened his dedication and passion.
Capoeira is a fusion of music, defense, strategy, rhythm and culture that one must experience firsthand in order to fully grasp. ABADÁ is a school defined by technical and clean movements, evolution and honoring of traditions and a teaching philosophy for students, instructors and all participants. Pastor continues to train and grow within the world of Capoeira and the school of ABADÁ. In his mind all are welcome to learn, participate, and enjoy the fruits of this Afro-Brazilian manifestation that is Capoeira: including valuable body awareness, discipline, appreciation for fitness, self-confidence, a broader world view, increased self-potential and camaraderie. The culture of Capoeira certainly teaches one to be a champion in Capoeira and a champion in life itself. Capoeira has given immeasurably to Pastor as well as opened new horizons. Through his classes and non-profit organization, he now spreads these same values.
